Formula 1 will return to Istanbul Park circuit in 2027 as part of a new five-year deal announced earlier this year. The undulating circuit on the Asian side of Istanbul is known for its dramatic elevation changes, flowing layout, and the iconic Turn 8 — a fast, multi-apex corner that’s considered one of the greatest challenges in modern Formula 1.

Turkey Race Facts & History
Istanbul Park was designed by Herman Tilke and staged the first Turkish Grand Prix in 2005. Despite being considered one of the best circuits on the calendar, it failed to attract large spectator numbers and fell over the calendar after 2011, before making a surprise return during the pandemic.

Do I Need a Visa for Turkey?
Most visitors do not need a visa for a stay of up to 90 days (within any 180 day period), including citizens of the European Union (except Cyprus), Australia, Canada, USA and the UK. In addition, citizens of several European countries (notably Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Ukraine) can even visit Turkey with only their ID card, instead of a passport. Istanbul Weather
Dates for the 2027 Turkish Grand Prix have not yet been confirmed, though it’s possible that the race will be held in the second half of September. During this month, at the end of the European summer, temperatures in Istanbul average 25℃ during the day and 16℃ at night. In September, it rains on average during eight days, with up to 50mm of rain falling during the month.
Safety
Istanbul is generally very safe for tourists, with a strong police presence in popular areas of the city. Nevertheless, you should always exercise caution in busy areas where pickpockets and petty scammers are known to operate. It’s also best to avoid protests and demonstrations, which have been known to become violent.
Money
Turkey uses the Lira (₺). At current exchange rates, €1 = ₺53. Cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops, though you’ll need cash for things like public transport tickets, street food, tipping, and at traditional markets. Tipping is not mandatory in Turkey, but is appreciated in restaurants and cafes (10-15% for good service). Taxi drivers, hotel staff and tour guides will also welcome tips for good service.
