Having made its debut back in 2021, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix returns for its sixth appearance on the Formula 1 calendar in 2026. Designed by Hermann Tilke, Jeddah Corniche Circuit is the fastest street circuit on which the sport has ever raced and has delivered some exciting racing since joining the calendar. F1 will continue racing at the street circuit until at least 2027, with construction work on a new purpose-built track in Qiddiya not expected to be finished until 2028.

Do I Need A Visa For Saudi Arabia?

Visitors from an increasing number of countries (currently 66), including the UK, USA, Canada and the European Union, are able to apply for an e-visa to visit Saudi Arabia. The e-visa allows visitors to spend up to 90 days in the country. More info about Saudi e-visa and list of eligible countries is here. If your country is not on the e-visa list, youโ€™ll need to apply for a visa in your closest Saudi Arabian embassy.

Jeddah Weather

Jeddah benefits from a desert climate and has tropical temperatures. This yearโ€™s race moves from March to April, so you the weather will be hotter in Jeddah. Except daily highs of 35ยฐC (95ยฐF), with the temperature falling to 22ยฐC (72ยฐF) at night. With most of the action at Jeddah happening after dark, the temperature should be quite comfortable. Itโ€™s worth even taking a light jumper. It is unlikely to rain during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend. On average, Jeddah sees only one day of rain during the entire month of April.

Health

Healthcare in Saudi Arabiaโ€™s major cities, such as Jeddah, is of a high standard. The King Fahd Hospital, located 18km south of Jeddah Corniche Circuit, is the areaโ€™s largest hospital. Pharmacies are easily accessible within the city. You should ensure you have adequate travel health insurance in place ahead of your visit.

Staying Safe in Jeddah

Saudi Arabia has a low crime rate. Petty crime, such as pickpocketing, can occur in crowded areas. Be vigilant in public spaces and avoid less-traveled streets, especially at night. Military conflict between Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Yemen is ongoing and missile attacks near the border do take place. During practice sessions for the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, a missile fired by Houthi rebels from Yemen struck an oil facility ten miles from the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The threat of terrorism is also significant in Saudi Arabia. Attacks can target Westerners and tourist sites. Be vigilant, particularly in likely targets such as shopping malls and historic sites in Jeddah.

Saudi Language & Culture

Arabic is the official language of Saudi Arabia, though English is widely spoken and is a compulsory second language taught in schools. Saudi Arabia is a conservative country where Islamic laws are observed. Prayers are observed five times per day and shops and restaurants may close during these times. Locals are generally tolerant but you should nevertheless observe social etiquette during your trip. The consumption of alcohol is banned in Saudi Arabia and public decency laws must be followed.

Saudi Money

The Saudi Riyal (SAR) is the official currency in Saudi Arabia. It is subdivided into 100 halala. The Saudi Riyal has been pegged to the US dollar since 1986. There is no need to take large amounts of money with you to the country. ATMs are plentiful across Saudi Arabia and youโ€™ll find many in Jeddahโ€™s shopping malls. Be aware that you may incur a fee ranging from 2-30 SAR for using a non-local bank card. Itโ€™s also possible to pay with card or phone in most retail settings, at hotels, restaurants and also at Jeddah circuit.

It’s not so difficult to choose a place to sit in Jeddah, as there’s only a limited number of grandstands to choose from, plus general admission and hospitality suites. Main Grandstand A tickets are best those who want to watch the race build up, start, pitstops and podium ceremony. The Central Grandstand is best for on-track action. There’s several high-end hotels right near the circuit, including the Shangri-La and Waldorf Astoria, but prices are very high for these hotels on race weekend. Alternatively, there’s plenty of more reasonably priced international hotels along the coast between the city centre and the Jeddah Corniche seafront area where the circuit is situated. Public transport is not well developed in Jeddah. Recommended ways to get to the track include ridesharing or taxi, or driving yourself. Plenty of parking is available near the circuit. Learn more in our Getting Around Guide.
