Budapest offers accommodation to suit all budgets and the city offers exceptional value for a European capital city, even on Grand Prix weekend. The Hungaroring circuit is located around 12 miles (20km) northwest of the city center. Camping at the circuit is a popular option, but we recommend staying in the center of Budapest to soak up everything this grand European city has to offer in the summer. The flat Pest side of the city is recommended over the hillier Buda side, as it offers easier access to the Hungaroring as well as more choice of accommodation, restaurants and nightlife. Where to Stay in Budapest?

  • Districts: Budapest is split into two main districts, Buda and Pest, which are on either side of the Danube river. The best place to stay is on the flat Pest side of the city where most of the city’s best shopping, restaurants and bars can be found and access to the circuit is quicker. Don’t discount staying on the pretty Buda side though if you want a quieter stay; get a hotel near a stop on the Western end of the red Metro line for trains to the circuit. (More info in Getting There & Around)
  • Hostels: There are plenty of well-rated hostels in the center of the city, most of which are close to the metro and offer decent access to the circuit. Dorm beds generally cost around €20-30 per night.
  • Apartments: Worth considering, particularly for a family or group of friends who are keen to keep costs down. Most apartments range in price from €100-150 per night for a studio or one-bed apartment suitable for two adults, up to €200+ per night for larger two-bed apartments which can sleep 4-6 adults.
  • Hotels: Budapest has a decent selection of hotels at cheaper rates than you would pay in Western Europe. Not too many F1 destinations offer such great value.

Where to Stay in Pest

With its late-20th-century identity as an Eastern Bloc nation behind the Iron Curtain still fresh in many minds, it’s worth remembering that Budapest has been a proud cultural center for hundreds of years, as one of the pillars of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As such, a trip to Budapest is less likely to reveal the ravages of communism than the beauty of grandiose 18th- and 19th- Century architecture. You can find easy examples of this at places like the incongruously named New York Cafe, where you can enjoy tea and cakes under the towering ceilings of what appears to be an 18th-Century ballroom. You might have to wait a while to be seated because of the venue’s popularity. While you’re waiting, head down to the Great Market Hall, Budapest’s biggest market, where you can find all kinds of curiosities and bargains under the classical roof.

Dormero Hotel Budapest offers modern functionality at a reasonable mid-price, with allergy-free rooms, good WiFi, and access to a garden. Elsewhere, for more of a luxury experience, Hotel Oktogon Haggenmacher takes you back to the Hapsburg era with its old-world opulence. If you don’t like messing around or waiting for anyone, KViHotel Budapest calls itself “the smart hotel”, and offers a fully digitalised experience, from check-in to your futuristic room. The F1 teams and drivers normally stay at the best 5-star hotels in the centre of Budapest, including the Al Habtoor Palace Budapest (previously The Ritz-Carlton), Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest, Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest, Corinthia Budapest and Aria Hotel Budapest.

The Editor attended the 2025 Hungarian GP and stayed at the NH Collection Budapest City Center. This hotel is recommended city-center option which is normally offered with F1 Experiences Ticket Packages and bus transfers.

Where to Stay in Buda

Buda is quieter than Pest by some measure, and the hilly district on the opposite side of the Danube is underrated as a tourist destination, partly because it’s further from the biggest tourist attractions, and partly because its undulations make it a slightly more challenging prospect on foot. With that said, it’s the perfect place to station yourself if you like the idea of being around one of the grandest old towns imaginable, with Buda Castle standing proud at the edge of the river.

PEST-BUDA Design Hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels in the Buda district, standing in the castle grounds, with the timber-framed rooms all featuring flatscreen TVs and enviable views. Those rooms are only accessible by stairs, unfortunately, but the hotel was renovated in 2016, and earned a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award in 2021. Hotel Clark Budapest – Adults Only is a perfect getaway for couples or solo travellers, with a highly-rated restaurant and bistro in-house, and balcony views in many of the well-furnished rooms. The Buda area of the city is on the wrong side of the river for travel to the Hungaroring. You should allow 45-60 minutes for the journey on race weekend.

Hungarian Grand Prix Camping

Fans from all over Europe make the annual pilgrimage to the Hungaroring, and many of them choose to camp next to the circuit. The atmosphere is excellent, though it can get a bit rowdy and drunken at times. If you have small children or know that you need a good night’s sleep, it may be better to choose alternative accommodation in Budapest.

Several semi-official campsites are located within walking distance of the track. These are all open from Wednesday, July 31 to Monday, August 4 during the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, a stay of up to five nights (you have to book a minimum of three nights, however). Camping pitches are available for tents, cars with caravans and motorhomes. In all cases, you’ll need to pay for the number of people who will be camping, as well as your chosen pitch (and separate parking if you are bringing a car). A tourist tax of €1 per night is also payable. Electricity hook ups are available from €15 per night.

The closest and best camping at the Hungaroring is Zengo Camping, behind the final corner. It’s a short stroll to Gate 6 and best for fans watching the action on or near the final corner in the renamed Apex 1-2, Grand Prix 1-2, Grid 1-2 and Fan grandstands. Camping Gold Panorama is very close to the main circuit gate (Gate 8) and is best for fans sitting on the pit straight in the renamed T1, Pit Exit 1-2 and Hungaroring (previously Super Gold) grandstands. Camping 1 (Ring Drive In) and Camping 2 (Grape Camping) sites are also available, see the locations in the map above. Camping Aqua (already sold out for 2025) is located in the water park next to the circuit, and is best for fans with General Admission and Chicane 1-3 grandstands, as well as those who like to cool off with a swim after a hot day at the track! Tickets for official campsites are also available from the official ticket agent for the Hungarian Grand Prix. More information: European F1 Camping Guide

I have booked my tickets for Hungary this year i was just wondering if you could reccomends anywhere that will do decent flight+Hotel deals from the uk for that weekend. I have looked but fear ive left it too late! appreciate the help!

    1. Hi Jayson, I don’t have many ideas for flight & hotel deals, but it will probably work out cheaper to buy your own flights and book your accommodation separately.

  3. Do you have an idea when tickets for 2024 will be available and is there an alert I can sign up to?
